Hello from Algis Crafts! Ready to create beautifully embossed cookies? We’re sharing some family secret tips that will make your cookies look like they came straight from a bakery.
Choosing the Right Dough Matters
From our experience, the dough you choose makes all the difference for embossed cookies. We’ve found that butter cookie dough gives the best results, holding patterns perfectly and tasting amazing. Sugar cookies, shortbread, and even ginger cookie doughs (without any rising agents) also work beautifully. Just avoid soft, cakey doughs, like classic chocolate chip, which spread too much and can blur those lovely details.
Skip the Rising Ingredients
To keep your designs sharp, avoid any rising ingredients like baking powder. This keeps the dough from puffing up and helps those beautiful patterns stay crisp.
Add Cornstarch for Better Detail
For a truly clean, raised relief, replace half a cup of flour with cornstarch. This little adjustment makes the dough smoother and gives the designs an extra sharp finish.
Chill, Flour, and Roll with Care
After mixing, let the dough chill in the fridge. Cold dough holds patterns best! Before you start rolling, lightly dust your embossed rolling pin with flour to prevent sticking. Then, roll with firm, even pressure to get a consistent pattern without flattening the dough too much.
Bake with a Little Oven Magic
Here’s our family’s special baking trick: place the baking tray on the top rack of the oven and bake for the first two minutes with the fan on. After that, switch to a regular setting for the remaining time. This helps set the pattern quickly and bake them evenly.
Enjoy the baking, and may every cookie bring a bit of warmth to your home. Happy baking from Algis Crafts!
Warm regards,
